Dental implants

In "Dental Rowan," we carry out the comprehensive implant prosthetic treatment. We have the full benefits of regulations, both in terms of specific surgical procedures and prosthetic supplies.

We apply, depending on individual indications, the following systems of dental implants:

• Swiss Institute Straumann system of dental implants
• Israeli MIS system of dental implants and the
• Polish Osteoplant system of dental implants.

Having all these implant systems at our disposal allows us to select the optimum solution in a given clinical situation, while taking into account the different financial capabilities of patients.

What is an implant?

An implant is an artificial root, which the surgeon introduces in place of a lost tooth. With implants, we can restore individual teeth, groups of teeth or entire teeth.

Implants are made of titanium, usually have a cylindrical shape of the screw. Titanium is the only element in nature, possessing the ability to osseointegration, which is permanent bonding with bone tissue, i.e., in the process of bone-titanium merging there occur the same biological processes as in the case of merging a broken bone.

Advantages of dental implants

  1. The perfect solution for both individual as well as with more missing teeth, always comfortable and aesthetic
  2. Firmly and securely hold dentures
  3. Avoid the grinding of teeth adjacent to the missing one
  4. Prevent alveolar bone atrophy.

What exactly is the implant procedure

The surgeon is developing a comprehensive plan of treatment based on patient expectations, clinical trial results, results of additional tests and bone measurements (in our clinic, we have a digital x-ray camera, which lowers the radiation dose of X-rays by 90% and makes the diagnosis very precise). After obtaining and analyzing the data, the physician provides patient with information about possible solutions in this case. It is also a good time to dispel any doubts the patient might have and decide on treatment.
Treatment is twofold, consisting of surgical and prosthetic parts.

Implants - the surgical part
This is a standard procedure that is performed under local anesthesia. The surgeon performs a hole in a specific place in the bone. Then the implant is screwed into the place and later the implant is covered with gum in order to provide better healing. Depending on the number of implants, the implant procedure takes from half to two hours. The period of implant's merging with the bone lasts from two to six months. The implant covered with gum fuses with bone and does not interfere with daily activities of life. Patient during the healing process will be provided with a temporary prosthetic restoration.

After healing of the implant its surface is revealed and stocked for several days in the healing screw, which extends to the edge of the implant to the gum. The next visits will bring the desired effect a full smile. Doctor retrieves impression and prosthodontics technician will perform a crown, bridge or denture snap, which then the prosthodontist will attach to the bone fused implants. In certain clinical situations, the doctor decides to enter the implant immediately after tooth extraction, which shortens the duration of treatment and has a beneficial effect on the behavior of the bone and gums around the implant.
An indispensable element of treatment are inspection visits during which the physician is able to assess the effects of treatment, whereas the patient is able to submit his/her observations.

Making additions based on implants - prosthetic part
Development of implant technologies opened up entirely new and different therapeutic possibilities for prosthetics. Prosthetic Procedure depends on the number of missing teeth and the type of planned additions:

  • Prosthetic crowns,
  • Bridges complementing partial lack of teeth,
  • Bridges complementing total lack of teeth,
  • Full denture of the 'overdenture type' - a complete denture supported by implants placed. Frequently such a situation happens in the edentulous mandible, when we can not enter the posterior implants to perform fixed complement (large loss of bone tissue, the patient's financial considerations). 2 or 4 implants are introduced and a denture resting on a beam or latches is prepared. Under favorable conditions the whole treatment can be done in one day.

Under favorable conditions it is possible to establish a provisional crown immediately after the introduction of implant. This is particularly important in the anterior of the mouth where aesthetic aspects are of high importance. Each time such a decision on the treatment is made by the physician.

Who can have implants?
Implants can be introduced in general to all healthy adults, having the right amount and quality of bone at the planned placement of the implant:
- Adults - a pre-condition for such treatment is the completion of the development and the overall final shaping of jaw bones,
- People generally healthy - overall health has a significant impact on the success of treatment; past or present general diseases such as unstable diabetes, cancer, blood disorders, osteoporosis, etc. have a negative impact on the process of osseointegration (healing the implant) and healing wounds;
- Persons having adequate quantity and quality of bone - normal, healthy bone tissue provides a substrate for the implant; the success of the dental implant treatment largely depends on the quantity and quality of the bone tissue; The problem is: the disappearance of the alveolar process and the inadequate amount of space for the implant.
These are problems that can be solved - the modern methods of pre-implantation surgery help in such cases.

Do implants hurt?
The implants treatment is guided under local anesthesia - so it's painless. Due to the delicacy and precision of surgical technique its nuisance for the patient is comparable to a tooth extraction.

Can implants completely replace the natural teeth?
Supplements based on implants can produce very good aesthetic effect and effectively restore the chewing function. Note that supplements based on the implants are by far the best solution because only these provide a lasting result of treatment, comfort, and are able to completely replace the natural dentition.

What complications can occur after surgery?
Properly performed implant surgery, with favorable terms and general conditions in the patient's mouth usually does not involve any risk. Commonly after implantation there may appear slight, temporary pain and swelling of soft tissues. To prevent the occurrence of late complications, the patients for several days after the procedure take an antibiotic.

What is the durability of implants?
The implant itself is indestructible. However, since the implant is placed in a living organism, part of reaction to an alien body depends on the state of the organism using it. If during use of the implant by the patient there are some general factors, such as illness or addictions, they may have a negative impact on the effect of therapy. Other looks the prosthetic part matter, that is usually covered with a warranty. As part of the material it may be subject to wear, which involves the periodic replacement of some of its parts, e.g. parts of porcelain.

Is oral hygiene important?
Oral hygiene plays a very important role in the success of implant treatment. If dental implants are to play long their role, the task for the patient is to maintain an exemplary oral hygiene. This task requires self-discipline and close work with your doctor, and starts immediately after the procedure - for 2 hours should not be eaten, and avoiding hot foods is recommended throughout the entire day. It is very important to avoid smoking (at least within 48 hours after surgery), restriction of food favoring plaque creation is also important. As the contaminants which accumulate around the implant, acting as a community of bacteria may lead to the development of infection and in extreme cases, to reject the implant, a return to gentle brushing of your teeth is indicated as soon as possible. Helpful in care is a 2-3 times a day rinsing the mouth with disinfectant. This is the beginning, but it is important that proper oral hygiene is maintained throughout the use of supplements based on the implants. Regular professional tooth cleaning procedures performed by your dentist, often combined with a follow-up visit are favorable and advisable in this case.

How does smoking cigarettes affects dental implant treatment?
Smoking worsens the regenerative capacity of tissues, therefore, significantly reduces the long-term chances of a positive outlook for the adoption and maintenance of implant. Smoking increases the risk of implant rejection by four times. It also contributes to easier emergence of difficult to remove deposits on the teeth and prosthetic restorations.
